Description

Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry

Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Work on a 41-bed inpatient telemetry unit focused on renal and limb preservation patients, including those with ESRD, ARF, vascular procedures, CHF, diabetes, and diabetic foot ulcers.
  • Patients receiving hemodialysis are treated in a separate hemodialysis unit; peritoneal dialysis patients receive treatments on the unit with dialysis team initiation.
  • Interdisciplinary team includes hospitalists, RN navigators, RNs, nursing assistants, dietary, PT/OT, pharmacy.
  • Unit uses Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR communication tools.
  • Self-scheduling based on unit needs.
  • Float requirement applies.
  • Weekend work every other weekend.
  • Shift: 12-hour night shifts (typically 18:45 to 7:15), 36 hours per week (option for 48 hours).
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina.
  • Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • NIH Stroke Certification.

Orientation & Training

  • 24 hours of orientation (2 shifts with preceptor plus EMR education).
  • Must complete medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam must be passed with a minimum score of 82% within 72 hours of assignment start. Three attempts allowed with remediation process.
  • Fit testing required (N95 mask or PAPR training).
  • Must complete required background checks and education verifications prior to start.

Patient Population & Unit Details

  • Patients primarily with renal failure, limb preservation needs, CHF, diabetes-related complications.
  • Telemetry monitoring capability.
  • Collaboration with dialysis team for peritoneal dialysis patients.

Compliance & Health Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days and annual updates required.
  • Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 1 year; if positive, chest x-ray within 5 years and physician-signed TB questionnaire required annually.
  • Required immunizations or titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination). Boosters required if titers negative or equivocal. Declinations not accepted except for Hepatitis B with facility-specific form.
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1–10/31). Masking required if exemption approved.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • 12-hour night shifts, typically 3 shifts per week.
  • Weekend work every other weekend.
  • Float to other units as needed.
  • Self-scheduling per unit needs.

Additional Notes

  • No return to office (RTO) after booking allowed; call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation.
  • Scrubs not provided; dress code colors are navy or white.
  • Interview with manager required prior to offer.
  • Must complete facility-specific compliance training and documentation, including confidentiality agreement, medication safety, and hospital policies.
  • Badge photo required prior to start (passport style, white background, business attire).
  • Candidates must complete the facility’s Corp ID and I-Learn account setup prior to start.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized telemetry unit with a focus on complex renal and vascular patient care in a supportive interdisciplinary environment.
