Description
Medical ICU RN Travel Assignment
Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Medical ICU Registered Nurse for a travel assignment in a mixed acuity unit primarily caring for progressive care patients with some ICU patients. The unit includes Medical ICU (24 beds) and Progressive Care (12 beds). The nurse will float between ICU, PCU, and Medsurg units, maintaining a maximum nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1.5 years ICU experience (2 years preferred)
- Valid Indiana RN license
- ACLS (AHA only) certification
- BLS (AHA only) certification
- Prior travel experience preferred
- Experience in Level 1 or Level 2 facilities preferred
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Care for ventilated patients
- Initiate and titrate IV drips including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
- Assist with intubations and line placements
- Monitor critically ill patients with diagnoses such as sepsis, respiratory failure, renal failure, myocardial infarctions, pulmonary embolism, and pneumonia
- Float to ICU, PCU, and Medsurg units as needed, maintaining appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios
Work Schedule
- Three 12-hour day shifts per week (e.g., 3 am to 3 pm)
- Traditional weekday plus weekend rotation
- Will not work alone
Unit & Equipment
- Mixed acuity unit with both ICU and progressive care patients
- Equipment includes Phillips heart monitors, Epic EMR, Pyxis, EKG machines, and dopplers
Orientation & Training
- 8 hours of non-billable orientation (one day of unit onboarding)
- Onboarding includes workforce development training, policy review, and Epic system access
Additional Information
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- Progressive Care: 1:3 (or 1:4 with transfers/medical patients)
- ICU: 1:2 (or 1:3 with transfers/medical patients)
- Dress code: Caribbean blue scrubs; jackets must be black, white, or Caribbean blue; undershirts must be black or white, short or long sleeves allowed
- Local clinicians within 50 miles may be subject to a rate adjustment
- Client may cancel assignment up to 24 hours in advance
This position offers a dynamic environment requiring strong critical care skills, flexibility, teamwork, and the ability to manage a variety of critically ill medical patients.
