Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location
- Washington, District of Columbia
Position Details
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience in specialty
- Experience with Neuro/Spine cases is mandatory
- Surgical experience required with procedures including:
- Appendectomy
- Cholecystectomy
- Colon resection
- Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical)
- Laparoscopic assisted procedures
- Whipple procedure
- Partial/total thyroidectomy
- Float requirement: Must be willing to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
Required Certifications and Licenses
- Active District of Columbia RN license (must be in hand upon application)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA or ARC)
- Additional certifications may be required based on unit specifics (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC) but are not explicitly required for this OR position
Skills and Competencies
- Proficient in Cerner electronic charting system
- Must have scrub experience in general OR settings
- Must have experience specifically with spine cases
Additional Requirements
- Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
- Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, license, and contact information
- Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
- Criminal background check within 90 days including all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; if history of TB, additional documentation required
- Immunization documentation required for:
- Tdap (within 10 years preferred)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or signed declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- N95 fit test within 9 months of start and updated annually (client may complete on-site if needed)
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start date
- Parking is available but at a cost
- Scrubs provided (color: blue)
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in District of Columbia
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience
- Operating Room experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
