Description
Surgical Room Nurse (Contract)
Job Overview
- Employment Type: Contractor
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 8-hour day shift, 40 hours per week
- Schedule:
- Weekend rotation every 4th weekend (Saturday-Sunday)
- Shift times vary:
- 06:45 - 15:15
- 14:45 - 19:15
- 22:45 - 07:15
- Options include 3x 12-hour shifts, 2x 8-hour + 2x 12-hour shifts, or 5x 8-hour shifts
- Hybrid/RT shifts Monday-Thursday, 8-10 hour shifts
- 6-week rotating schedule, provided 2-4 weeks in advance
- No self-scheduling; assignments based on rotation needs
- Operating Room open 24/7, 365 days/year with full staffing M-F 07:30-23:00; skeleton crew after hours and on weekends for trauma/urgent cases
- Holiday coverage required
- On-call availability required with 30-minute response time; sleeping room available for on-call staff
Unit & Patient Information
- Unit Beds: 28 (including 2 hybrid rooms for cardiovascular/vascular cases)
- Patient Volume: Approximately 60-75 cases per day
- Patient Types: Outpatient, inpatient, trauma
- Common Diagnoses:
- Gunshot wounds, stabbings
- Kidney and heart transplants (no liver or lung transplants)
- Donor cases
- General surgery, gynecology, urology, robotics, vascular, orthopedic, neurology
- Open heart surgeries and CABG
- Hybrid room cases (5-10 per day): TAVR, AAA, endarterectomies, angiograms, fistula revisions (adults only)
- Pediatric cases (~20%): open hearts, appendectomy, cholecystectomy
- Participation in organ donation cases
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Years of Experience: 2-3 years of acute care experience required
- First-time travelers: Accepted (no prior travel experience required)
- Licenses & Certifications:
- For OR/CVOR Registered Nurses: BLS required
- For Surgical Technologists: BLS and CST required
- For Hybrid IR Technologists: BLS and ARRT required
- For Surgical Assistants: BLS and CSA required
Skills & Competencies
- OR RN:
- Ability to scrub and circulate
- Critical care experience preferred
- Trauma experience at Level 1 or 2 required
- EPIC electronic medical record experience required
- CVOR RN:
- Ability to scrub and circulate adult or pediatric open-heart cases (specific assignment clarified by manager)
- Critical care and Level 1 trauma experience required
- EPIC experience required
- Surgical Technologists: Ability to scrub the specified cases
- Hybrid IR Technologists: Experience with hybrid patient types and Siemens equipment required

- Charge nurse available (no patient assignment Monday-Friday; assists evenings and weekends)
