Job Overview

• Adult Respiratory Therapist (RRT) role requiring critical care experience to work in a high-volume Emergency Room at a Level 1 Trauma Center.
• Night shifts primarily: 3 shifts of 12 hours (7 PM - 7 AM). Option for 4x12 shifts by request.
• Patient population includes adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
• Floating within skillset required.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Virginia.
• Minimum of 1 year of Respiratory Therapist experience, with experience within the last year.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
• Critical care experience.
• Ventilator management experience, including BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, flow-by, troubleshooting high-pressure alarms, and weaning from mechanical ventilation.
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Scheduling & Work Requirements

• Shift: Night, 3x12 hour shifts (7 PM - 7 AM), with option for 4x12 shifts by request.
• Weekend Requirement: May be every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block.
• Holiday Requirement: Must work at least one holiday per 13-week contract.
• Call-off Policy: Facility allows calling off 1 shift per 2 weeks.
• Locals are not accepted due to radius restrictions.
• First-time travelers accepted; however, 1 year of travel experience is preferred.

Unit & Equipment Details

• Patient-to-therapist ratio approximately 1:25.
• Robust Assess and Treat protocols with ventilator management and liberation policies in place.
• Equipment used includes Servo I, Servo U, V-60 BiPAP, Optiflow heated high flow, iNO with the iNOvent, and LTV1200 ventilators.

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Valid Driver’s License/State ID with an address more than 100 miles from the facility is required.
• Background check covering 7 years of history, including education verification and multiple federal/state checks, required within 1 year of start.
• E-Verify or attestation required.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming freedom from communicable diseases.
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
• Fit test for respiratory masks within 1 year, updated annually.
• Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 1 year, updated annually; if previously positive, clear chest X-ray within 1 year and annual TB questionnaire required.
• Immunization or positive titer documentation required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (positive titer, vaccine series, or declination)
  • Varicella
• Flu vaccination documentation or signed declination form required during flu season.
• Two clinical references required.
• Complete employment application/resume required.
• Annual skills checklist update required.
• Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment and HIPAA compliance required prior to start.

• Candidates must complete facility-specific paperwork and compliance checklists prior to start.
• Floating within the respiratory therapy skillset is expected.
• The facility is a large acute care teaching hospital with Level 1 Trauma Center designation and Magnet recognition for nursing excellence.
