Registered Nurse (RN) - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Location: Hermitage, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36 (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)

Unit & Work Environment

• Unit Type: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with two subunits (34 beds and 25 beds)
• Patient Ratios:

  • Days: 1:4 to 1:5
  • Nights: 1:5 to 1:6
• Staffing:

  • 3 techs on larger unit, 2 techs on smaller unit when fully staffed
• Equipment Used:

  • Bipaps, high flow oxygen, Vapotherm, Alaris pumps
  • Cardiac, heparin, and insulin drips
  • Peritoneal dialysis and wound vacs (in conjunction with wound care)
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Floating Policy: May float between PCU units or to med-surg floors
• Patient Experience:

  • Hourly rounding on days, every 2 hours on nights
  • Use of AIDET communication and communication boards

Scheduling & Work Expectations

• Schedule: 3 twelve-hour shifts per week
• Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
• Self-scheduling available with 4-week schedules

• Many travelers choose to extend after their initial assignment

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
• Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Experience with EKG rhythm interpretation
• Experience with cardiac, insulin, and heparin drips
• Experience with BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, and multiple oxygen delivery systems
• Stroke care experience
• Post-cardiac catheterization care experience
• Experience with tube feedings and NG/Dobhoff tube management

• Peritoneal dialysis
• Thoracentesis
• Paracentesis
• Chest tube insertions
• Dobhoff/NG tube insertions
• Central line dressing changes
• Wound vac troubleshooting

Dress Code

• Black scrubs required

• The unit utilizes techs to assist with patient care
