Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract
Location: Greenville, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (3 shifts of 12 hours per week, total 36 hours/week)
Job Description
- Provide respiratory care in both Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) and Pediatric ICU (PICU) units; floating between these units is required.
- Manage ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) devices during bedside cannulation and cannula repositioning.
- Patient population includes post-cardiac surgery, cardiogenic shock, traumatic injury, ARDS/respiratory failure, and other critical acute illnesses requiring ECMO support.
- Work alongside ICU RNs and RTs, specifically responsible for ECMO device management following provider orders.
- Must have experience with both pediatric and adult patients.
- Use specialized equipment including Cardiohelp and Centrimag ECMO consoles, Cardio Quip heater-cooler unit, and point-of-care glucometer.
- Weekend coverage every other weekend, subject to change based on need.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in South Carolina
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner within the last year
- Experience working with both Pediatric and Adult patients
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License required immediately upon signing for computer access and must be carried on duty.
- Background check covering 7 years of history, including alias and multi-state/county searches.
- E-Verify or attestation required.
- Federal and state sanction screenings (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG) within 30 days of start and ongoing every 30 days.
- Education verification of highest level completed.
- Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start.
- Annual and pre-start health documents including:
- Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet job demands.
- Immunizations and/or titers for TB, Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap.
- Negative TB test within 90 days of start.
- Drug screening within 1 year, updated annually.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption.
- Respirator fit test completed onsite during orientation.
- Badge photo meeting facility specifications required prior to start.
- Completion of online orientation modules and pass/fail testing (medication and arrhythmia exams) prior to start.
- Annual competency exams and core training modules (Parts I, II, III) including OSHA, patient safety, and age-specific care.
- Floating policy acknowledgment required annually.
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
- Candidate must be prepared for night shifts and weekend coverage.
- ECMO device management is a critical responsibility; specialized training and experience are mandatory.
- Candidate will work in a high-acuity ICU environment with complex cardiopulmonary patients.
- Orientation includes approximately 12-16 hours of online modules plus 16 hours of non-billable onsite orientation.
- Pass/fail testing must be completed within 48 hours of receiving access; two attempts allowed with no remediation.
- Candidates must use Chrome browser for testing; no handheld devices allowed.
