Description
Job Opportunity: Surgical Room Nurse (Nursing Administration)
Position Details
- Employment Type: Contractor
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 10-hour day shifts, 40 hours per week
- Schedule:
- Weekend rotation every 4th weekend (Saturday-Sunday)
- Multiple shift options including 6 AM–3:15 PM, 2:45 PM–7:15 PM, 10:45 PM–7:15 AM
- OR operates 24/7, with full staffing M-F 7:30 AM–11:00 PM and skeleton crew after hours and on weekends
- Holiday coverage required
- On-call duties with 30-minute response time; sleeping room available for on-call staff
- No self-scheduling; assignments based on rotation
- 6-week schedule provided 2-4 weeks in advance
Unit and Patient Information
- Unit Beds: 28 (including 2 hybrid rooms for cardiovascular/vascular cases)
- Patient Volume: Approximately 60-75 cases per day
- Patient Types: Outpatient, inpatient, trauma
- Common Diagnoses and Procedures:
- Gunshot wounds, stabbings, kidney and heart transplants, donor cases
- General surgery, gynecology, urology, robotics, vascular, orthopedic, neurology
- Open heart surgeries and CABG
- Hybrid room cases (5-10 per day): TAVR, AAA, endarterectomies, angiograms, fistula revisions (adults only)
- Pediatric cases (~20%): open hearts, appendectomy, cholecystectomy
- No liver or lung transplants
- Participation in organ donation cases
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Experience:
- 2-3 years of acute care experience required
- For Hybrid IR Tech role, 3 years of hybrid experience required
- Travel Experience: First-time travelers accepted (no prior travel experience required)
- Licenses and Certifications:
- OR/CVOR RN: BLS required
- Surgical Tech/CVOR Surgical Tech: BLS, CST required
- Hybrid IR Tech: BLS, ARRT required
- Surgical Assistant: BLS, CSA required
Skills and Competencies
- OR RN: Ability to scrub and circulate; critical care experience preferred; trauma experience at Level 1-2; EPIC EMR experience required
- CVOR RN: Ability to scrub and circulate adult or pediatric open-heart cases; critical care and Level 1 trauma experience; EPIC experience required
- CST: Ability to scrub the specified cases
- CVOR Tech: Ability to scrub adult or pediatric open-heart cases
- Hybrid IR Tech: Experience with hybrid patient types and Siemens equipment required
Orientation and Support
- Orientation:
- Day 1: Meet educators and nurse manager, gain system access, complete online modules and EPIC training
- Days 2-3: Unit-specific orientation
- Support Team:
- Charge nurse (no patient assignment weekdays, assists evenings/weekends)
- Bedside monitoring by anesthesiologist
- Resource nurse, educators, service line representatives, EPIC super-user, and nurse manager

- IV Pumps: Alaris
- Medication Dispensing: Pyxis
