Description
Registered Nurse – Med Surg (Travel Assignment)
Location: Frankfort, Kentucky
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit & Work Environment
- Med/Surg unit on 4th Floor with 46 beds
- Patient ratio: 6:1
- Staffing includes Clinical Nurse Coordinators (charge nurse), RNs, LPNs, PCTs, Nurse Externs, and Unit Clerks; staffing adjusts based on patient census
- Equipment used: GE Apex Pro Telemetry box, Hoyer lift, Sara Steady, Baxter IV pumps, iMobile, Alaris PCA IV pump, Welch Allen Vitals machine, Glucometer
- Documentation system: Meditech Expanse
- Scheduling: Three 12-hour shifts per week, every other weekend
- Floating: May float to post-surgical med/surg unit or PCU for telemetry overflow
- Unit culture: Strong teamwork, excellent interdisciplinary communication, supported by director, manager, and clinical educator
- Communication: Use of GroupMe for unit communication and celebrations
- Recognition: Daisy nominations, bi-weekly unit prizes for teamwork and patient care
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Kentucky
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg nursing experience, with Med Surg experience within the last year
- BLS certification required
- Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification (must be renewed annually)
- De-escalation skills in healthcare settings
- Experience with telemetry and EKG interpretation
- CPAP management skills
- Port access experience
- Post-Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (post-PCI) patient care experience
- Experience with chest tubes, NG tubes, drains, and central lines
- Post-dialysis assessment skills
- Blood transfusions experience
- Paracentesis experience

Dress Code
- Navy blue or gray scrubs required
- No T-shirts, fleece jackets, or sweatshirts allowed
- Scrub jackets and long sleeve shirts under scrub tops may be any color or pattern
- Royal blue scrubs are prohibited (reserved for OB/LD department)
