Description

Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (Contract)

Location: Hilo, Hawaii
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Provide primary nursing care in a 15-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) consisting of 3 step-down ICU beds and 12 telemetry beds.
  • Patient ratios: 1:4 in Progressive Care, 1:3 in Step-down ICU.
  • Scheduled for 36 hours per week after the first week of orientation; no guaranteed hours and no on-call required.
  • May float to other acute care units including Medical, Surgical/Pediatrics, ICU, and Emergency Room.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Hawaii required by the start of the assignment (travelers without a current license must apply immediately upon offer acceptance).
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
  • Acute care experience required.
  • ACLS certification required.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.

Skills and Responsibilities

  • Primary nursing care delivery.
  • Telemetry monitoring and telemetry strip reading.
  • Fingerstick blood sugar testing.
  • Use of Meditech electronic charting system.
  • Medication administration via Pyxis system.
  • Operation of BIPAP and continuous cardiac monitoring equipment.

Additional Information

  • Must arrive the Thursday before the start date for an employee health appointment on Friday.
  • Dress code: Scrubs.
