Description
ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Middletown, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Overview
- Work in a 16-bed ICU unit within a 310-bed hospital, designated as a Level III Trauma Center.
- Patient ratios: 1:2 for Critical Care patients, 1:3 for Intermediate level patients.
- Unit includes a Neuro Unit for ischemic strokes receiving TPA, care for COVID-positive patients, CRRT, 24-hour EEG, hypothermia post cardiac arrest, and prone patients.
- Family-centered care with no visiting hour restrictions.
- Customer service is a top priority.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, with ICU experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Scheduling and Floating
- Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed.
- Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays.
- Floating is expected at the employer’s discretion, including to high-risk respiratory units or COVID units.
- Floating locations may include nearby campuses within 10-15 miles.
Certifications and Competencies
- NIH Stroke Certification required within 12 months prior to start and updated annually (with a 5-day grace period).
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start or must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing (3 attempts allowed).
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within 2 years of start.
- Other certifications such as PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, CPI apply only if working in specific units (not required for ICU).
Health and Background Requirements
- Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness to work and free of communicable diseases.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray; annual TB questionnaire if past positive.
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (vaccination series, immune titer, or declination).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
- Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 12 months prior to documentation due date, including marijuana panel.
- 7-year criminal background check including SSN trace, national sex offender check, and other required screenings.
- E-Verify and I-9 compliance required.
- Government-issued photo ID required.
Documentation and Verification
- Current resume/application required.
- Two professional references within 2 years, including at least one manager/supervisor/charge RN. Employment verification accepted if references are unavailable.
- Skills checklist updated within 1 year prior to documentation due date.
- Primary source verification of Ohio RN license and certifications.
- Annual health questionnaire and candidate agreement must be completed prior to documentation due date.
Additional Notes
- Travelers are first to float and may be assigned to various specialty clusters as needed.
- Employer reserves the right to cancel up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract due to low census, with 2 weeks’ notice and no penalty.
- Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives.
- Request for time off (RTO) must be submitted with initial application; no RTO added after offer. Approval is at manager’s discretion.
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with critical care, telemetry, and flexible scheduling in a dynamic hospital environment.
