Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - NICU
Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Description
- Pediatric RRT role requiring experience in PICU or NICU and intensive care.
- Not ICU-only; floating required to acute and all inpatient areas as needed, including all ICUs.
- Patient population includes neonates, infants, pediatrics, and adolescents.
- Skills required: airway management, medication administration, ventilator management, oxygen therapy, suctioning, pulmonary toileting, nebulizer treatments, BiPAP, CPAP.
- Preferred experience: trauma (Level 1 trauma), ER, teaching/community hospital settings, children’s hospital experience.
- Additional preferred skills: high frequency jet ventilator, high frequency oscillator, EKG interpretation, code response, rapid response.
- Electronic health record system used: EPIC.
- On-call not required but available for pick-up.
- Weekend work required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Washington
- Respiratory Therapist with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential (NBRC)
- Certifications: BLS, PALS
- Experience with CPAP
Compliance and Background Requirements
- E-Verify attestation required.
- 7-year criminal background check required; must include FACIS 3, county civil searches, state and national criminal databases, sex offender watch, and global sanctions.
- Background checks must be current; returning candidates with less than 6 months gap may have some background checks accepted from prior contracts.
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start.
- WA State Patrol (WATCH) search required within 12 months and rerun every 2 years.
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year.
- Fit test for respirator use required within 12 months prior to assignment; fit testing on site is not allowed.
- Medical clearance for respirator use (RespSafety clearance) required annually.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (accepted if given after age 11)
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (vaccine series or positive antibody titer or signed declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (Oct-Mar)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol.
- COVID vaccine strongly recommended but not required.
Orientation and Training
- Orientation dates available on Mondays; accepting all start dates.
- Required to complete facility-specific modules prior to start (approx. 8 hours).
- Epic inpatient nurse test-out modules required for RNs.
- Respiratory protection training provided via facility’s online platform.
- Math test and EKG competency exam required prior to start; remediation available if needed.
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required.
- Skills checklists required, including pediatric skills checklist.
Additional Notes
- Photo for badge required within 72 hours of contract signing; must be on a blue background with no hats or headwear.
- Payroll deduction authorization form required for parking charges if bringing a vehicle.
- Floating to all inpatient and acute care areas is mandatory.
- RTO (Return to Office) shifts must be included in initial submission for approval.
This position is ideal for experienced pediatric respiratory therapists with strong NICU/PICU and intensive care backgrounds who are flexible to float across various inpatient units and work night shifts.
