Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - NICU
Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Pediatric RRT role requiring experience in PICU or NICU and intensive care.
- Not ICU-only; floating to acute and all inpatient areas including all ICUs.
- Patient population includes neonates, infants, pediatrics, and adolescents.
- Schedule: Day shifts, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM).
- Floating required to all inpatient/acute care areas.
- Weekend shifts required.
- On-call not required but available for pick-up.
- Return to Office (RTO) shifts limited to 3 per week.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Washington
- Minimum of 1 year of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS certification
- PALS certification
- NBRC certification
- Experience working with neonate patients
- Experience working with infant patients
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Experience working with adolescent patients
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in trauma, Level 1 trauma centers, emergency room, teaching or community hospitals.
- Skills with high frequency jet ventilator, high frequency oscillator, EKG interpretation, code response, rapid response.
- Previous experience in a children’s hospital setting.
- Familiarity with EPIC electronic health record system.
Licensure & Certification Notes
- Washington State license must be in hand for ASAP start; application must be submitted ASAP for later start dates.
- Compact licenses accepted for RNs but specific WA requirements apply; for RRTs, WA state license is required.
- Certifications must be AHA provider level; instructor-level certifications are not accepted.
Orientation & Training
- Orientation sessions held on Mondays.
- All required modules must be completed prior to start except Epic training and medication assessment, which are completed onsite.
- Respiratory protection training provided via facility’s online platform.
- Fit testing for respirators required prior to start; on-site fit testing not allowed.
- Candidates must be medically cleared annually for respirator use.
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year.
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year.
- Immunizations and titers required for: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B.
- TB screening: Qgold/Tspot within 12 weeks of start or 2 PPDs (one within 1 year, one within 12 weeks).
- Annual flu vaccination or declination form required during flu season (Oct-Mar).
- Respiratory safety medical clearance required for respirator use.
- Background check including 7-year criminal history, county civil searches, national criminal database, sex offender registry, and global sanctions.
- WA State Patrol (WATCH) search required within 12 months and rerun every 2 years.
Testing & Competency Exams
- EKG/Dysrhythmia competency exam required prior to start for PICU, NICU, ER.
- Pediatric pharmacology competency exam required.
- Skills checklists required, including pediatric skills checklist for float coverage.
- Math test administered onsite on arrival (proctored); remediation allowed if failed.
Additional Notes
- Photo for badge required within 72 hours of contract signing; must be on a blue background with no hats or headwear.
- Meal waiver agreement available but not required unless waiving second meal period.
- Candidates must include their RTO schedule with initial submission for approval.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this role.
This position is ideal for experienced pediatric respiratory therapists with critical care skills looking for a travel contract in a pediatric acute care setting.
