Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech

Location: Flushing, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Shift: Evening (Monday-Friday, 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM)
Hours: 40 hours per week (8 hours per day)

Job Description

• Position involves working in Surgical Services with responsibilities related to central processing and surgical instrumentation.
• Requires physical stamina for heavy lifting, pulling, and pushing of equipment.
• Knowledge of surgical instruments, autoclave, and gas sterilizers is essential.
• Experience in a Level 1 trauma center is preferred.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Surgical Technologist, with experience within the last year.
• Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST).
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Experience as a Sterile Processing Technician.

Required Experience

• 3 years of specialty experience in Surgical Services.
• 3 years experience in a Level 1 trauma center preferred.
• 1 year experience in central processing.
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.

Background and Compliance Requirements

• Criminal background check covering all locations lived, worked, or attended school in the past 7 years, including all aliases.
• Education verification with primary source verification for all formal education listed.
• Social Security verification including Death Master Index search.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 60 days of start.
• Sex offender and OFAC sanctions list searches.
• 20-year employment application and work history verification with no gaps.
• Professional references: 2 for travel/allied/per diem acute care roles.

Health and Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, including vital signs, medical history, and clearance to work without restrictions.
• Fit mask test (N95) within 1 year prior to start; PAPRs not accepted.
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray per specified options.
• Annual TB questionnaire.
• Vaccination or immunity documentation for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, antigen, or vaccine series with declination if applicable)
  • Hepatitis C screening within 6 months prior to start.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Sept 3 – May 4).
• Negative 9-panel drug screen with chain of custody within 60 days prior to start (excluding marijuana).
• Vision screening (Snellen) within 12 months prior to start.
• Color blind testing if applicable (after failing online exam twice).

Competency and Training

• Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
• Competency exam relevant to specialty.
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgment (updated annually).
• Completion of facility-specific orientation and annual required training modules.
• Completion of prestart and EPIC learning modules prior to start.

Physical Demands

• Job requires physical stamina and ability to handle heavy equipment.
