Medical Lab Technician - Travel/Contract Position
Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Shift: Night (4x10 hours), 9:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in the Medical Center laboratory during night shift hours.
- Must hold an active and unrestricted Louisiana state license for the Laboratory specialty.
- Prior travel experience is required; local candidates will not be considered.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Medical Lab Technician license in Louisiana.
- Minimum of 1 year of Medical Lab Technician experience, including experience within the last year.
- Prior travel experience required (must have completed at least one prior travel contract).
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Copy of valid photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Criminal background check (updated if no assignment within last 90 days).
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually.
- Annual respirator fit testing (Fit Mask) including mask size.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; annual renewal required.
- TB questionnaire required annually.
- 12-panel drug screen within 90 days prior to start (does not require annual renewal).
- Signed System Access and Confidentiality Agreement prior to start.
- Completion of facility-specific Healthstream training courses, including glucose testing demonstration.
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA provider, instructor, or RQI acceptable.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on assignment area (check specifics).
Immunization and Exemption Policies
- Influenza vaccination is not required for employment but vaccine or declination form should be obtained for file.
- Facility-specific medical and religious exemption forms for influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations must be completed if applicable.
- Documentation for MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, and Varicella is not required by the client and does not impact start date.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be prepared to comply with all facility-specific onboarding and credentialing requirements.
- Pending background checks may be accepted upon approval but must be uploaded to the master file.
- Candidates unable to complete required Healthstream courses and return demonstrations will not be permitted to perform certain clinical tasks (e.g., glucose testing).
This position is ideal for experienced Medical Lab Technicians with prior travel assignments who are licensed in Louisiana and seeking a night shift travel contract role.
