Description

Job Opportunity: Oncology Chemo Certified Registered Nurse

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Facility & Unit Information

  • Type: Short Term Acute Care, Teaching Hospital
  • Total Staffed Beds: 402
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Scrub Policy: Any color scrubs allowed, no other hospital logos
  • Shift Rotation: Rotate Day/Night every other weekend
  • Shift Hours:
    • Day: 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM (3 shifts/week, 12 hours each)
    • Night: 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM (3 shifts/week, 12 hours each)
  • Weekend Shifts: Roughly every other weekend, depending on unit needs
  • Float Requirement: Must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4-5

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in District of Columbia
  • Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one prior travel assignment
  • One month of per diem nursing experience
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Proficient in chemotherapy administration
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Flu vaccine required annually (strict exemption policy)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; if history of TB, additional documentation required
  • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
  • N95 Fit Test within 9 months of start, updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed)
  • Immunization or titer documentation required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or signed declination)
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years preferred

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 3 years, minimum 80% score
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required annually for telemetry and critical care specialties, minimum 80% overall and 100% lethal rhythms section
  • Color blindness testing (online or in-person) required

Background & Documentation

  • Criminal background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • Education verification of highest degree required by position
  • I9/E-Verify attestation required prior to start
  • Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
  • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, license, and contact information
  • Skills checklist required prior to start and updated annually

Additional Notes

  • Initial schedule based on unit needs; future schedules consider nurse preferences balanced with unit requirements
  • Facility requires annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual
  • Valid driver’s license required if driving is an essential job function
