Registered Nurse – Neuro ICU

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Unit: Neuro ICU
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

• 18 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2
• Patient types: Ventriculostomy patients, strokes (with/without tPA), post-craniectomy care
• Respiratory therapy equipment present (ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow); RNs troubleshoot these devices
• Telemetry monitors (Phillips); nurses read and interpret their own strips; telemetry tech staffed every shift
• Charge nurse present; may take patient assignments if staffing requires
• House supervisor available 24/7
• Patient care techs/nurse aides present with a 9:1 ratio
• Floating: Travelers float first; may float to intermediate (1:3 ratio) or general floors (1:4 ratio)

Required Certifications & Skills

• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS
• Experience with:

  • Ventriculostomy care
  • NIH Stroke Scale certification
  • Ventilator management
  • Arterial and central lines
  • tPA administration
  • Acute stroke management
  • Post-craniectomy care
• Ability to titrate drips per physician orders (varied drips, ICU level)

Orientation & Scheduling

• Unit-specific orientation: 20 hours (one 8-hour shift and one 12-hour shift)
• Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: Rotating every other holiday

Additional Information

• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
• Drug-free campus; negative drug screen required for all panels
• No call or standby requirement
• Travelers subject to floating first to other units as needed

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that application process has been initiated
• Must provide last four digits of SSN and middle initial upon submission
• Must meet all certification and skill requirements listed above

This position is ideal for experienced Neuro ICU RNs comfortable with high-acuity stroke and neuro patients, ventilator management, and complex ICU care in a fast-paced environment.
