Job Opportunity: Nuclear Medicine Tech

Location: Bloomington, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (4x10 hours), 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Hours per Week: 40


Job Description

  • Work in a 3-room unit serving inpatient, outpatient, and ER patients.
  • Patient volume: 13-15 patients per day.
  • Hours may vary depending on workload.
  • Open to first-time travelers.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Nuclear Medicine.
  • Proficient in IV starts and PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System).
  • Procedure experience required:
    • Cardiac
    • Bone Scan
    • Liver/Spleen Scan
    • Lung Scan
    • Thyroid Studies
    • Tumor Localization
    • Myocardial Imaging
  • Preferred procedure experience:
    • Brain Scan
    • Renal Flow
    • SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography)
  • Documentation system: Cerner.
  • Equipment: Siemens preferred.

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Valid Nuclear Medicine Technologist certification: ARRT(N) or NMTCB.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or RQI accepted).
  • Must have a valid state license verified online within 30 days before start date.
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on the cost center (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM) – verify as applicable.

Required Background & Compliance

  • Background check within 90 days of start, including:
    • 7-year residential/work history
    • SSN trace
    • County, state, and national criminal checks
    • National sex offender registry
    • FACIS Level III
    • Education verification (highest applicable degree)
    • International search if lived/worked outside the US in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
  • Clear copy of valid Driver’s License or Passport required.

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam completed within 12 months of start date.
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start with approved respirators (3M N95 models or Honeywell N95).
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Rubeola (Measles): Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations accepted).
    • Mumps: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations accepted).
    • Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations accepted).
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations accepted; history not accepted).
    • Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required.
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Strongly recommended but not required.
  • Tuberculosis screening within 1 year of start (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT). If positive, chest X-ray and proof of past positive required.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31). Declinations not accepted.

Competency & Documentation

  • Unit competency exam required.
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required (not required for techs or RRTs).
  • Color blind testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent) with minimum 100% score required.
  • Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually thereafter.
  • References: Minimum 2 from recent employment within 2 years, with contacts holding charge, manager, supervisor, or higher titles.
  • Employment application covering 7 years with explanations for gaps of 30+ days.

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Completion of facility-specific compliance, confidentiality, and orientation documents prior to start.
  • HIPAA acknowledgment required.
  • Various packets and checklists must be reviewed and signed electronically before starting.

Required Certifications & Qualifications

  • Valid Nuclear Medicine Technologist license in Indiana.
  • Minimum 2 years of Nuclear Medicine Technologist experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Certification by ARRT(N) or NMTCB.

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are welcome.
  • Equipment familiarity with Siemens is preferred but not mandatory.
