Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - MS/Tele
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours; 18:45 - 7:15)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Description
- Position supports the Emergency Department (ED) Holding unit within the float pool.
- Patients are adults with any medical/surgical diagnosis, including PCU level patients.
- Responsibilities include caring for MS/Telemetry patients and floating to ED and MedSurg areas as needed.
- Target nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:6 for MS/Tele patients, 1:4 for PCU level patients.
- Weekend work required every other weekend.
- Maximum Return to Office (RTO) allowed is 7 days; no RTO after booking or onsite workarounds permitted.
- Contract staff may be assigned to Storm or Hurricane Teams and may be required to work during catastrophic events or disasters.
- Unit uses standard equipment including cardiac monitors and IV pumps.
- Documentation and communication systems: Pyxis, Epic, SBAR.
- Unit orientation duration: 12 hours.
- Scrubs color: Navy.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Preferred Qualifications
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Experience with IV insulin protocols.
- Pre/Post hemodialysis management.
- Accessing ports and central line blood draws.
- Starting IVs.
- Care of patients with CVA, neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury.
- Ortho trauma and total joint replacements.
- Wound care and wound vac (WOCN or WCC certification if required).
Patient Population
- Adult medical/surgical patients awaiting inpatient beds in the ED holding area.
- May include PCU level acuity patients.
Compliance and Onboarding Requirements
- Background checks including local, federal, national criminal databases, DOJ sex offender search, and education verification.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel urine drug screen).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days required.
- Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (not required for non-clinical).
- Immunizations and titers required or boosters for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (facility-specific declination form if titer negative/equivocal)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
- Completion of facility-specific education modules including medication safety and annual compliance training.
- Completion of Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation (for North Carolina travel candidates).
- Confidentiality agreement and hospital policies acknowledgment.
- Photo for badge (passport style, white background, business attire, no head coverings except glasses).
- Must complete Epic training or test-out if applicable (optional).
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years (not required by facility but required by agency).

- This is a high-acuity, mixed unit with high patient turnover.
- Candidates will be interviewed prior to placement.
- Manager schedules shifts.
- Contract length is 13 weeks.
- Float pool assignment with flexibility to work in ED, MedSurg, and telemetry units.
- Must be willing to work every other weekend.
- Navy scrubs required.
