Description
Registered Nurse (MS/Telemetry) - Travel/Contract
Location: Plainview, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Overview
- Acute care nursing position covering Medical Surgical (MS) and Telemetry units.
- Charge Nurse responsibilities required, overseeing operational workflow for the entire Acute Care Services Department, including MS unit and adult ICU (ICU nurse provides direct ICU care).
- Patient population ranges from 1 month old through end of life, requiring broad clinical competency.
- Standard patient ratio: 1:6.
- No floating between units.
- No on-call required.
- Weekend work required: 6 weekend shifts per schedule period.
- Experienced travel nurses only.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Texas.
- Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in Medical Surgical and Telemetry nursing within the last year.
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
- Experience in Charge Nurse roles.
- Current certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experienced traveler.
Certifications & Competencies
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification preferred but not mandatory.
- Chemotherapy, Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM), IV Certification, Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB), NIH Stroke Certification, Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certifications as applicable per unit requirements.
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as required by specialty.
- Color Blind Testing may be required on a unit basis.
- Competency exams relevant to specialty and unit.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Social Security Card (as applicable).
- Background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually.
- E-Verify attestation required.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated monthly.
- Education verification required for nursing degree; international education requires additional documentation (e.g., CES report).
- NURSYS license verification required for all RNs.
- Minimum of 2 professional references covering at least 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years.
- Employment application covering at least the last 5 years of employment.
- Work history verification may be required if reference requirements are not met.
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, confirming ability to work with or without accommodation.
- Fit mask test (respirator clearance) required for travel nurses, updated annually.
- Immunizations and screenings:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer, or declination
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer, or declination
- Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season or declination
- COVID-19 vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted with adherence to masking policies
- 9 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months of start (10-panel for some Per Diem candidates).
Additional Requirements
- Passport-style badge photo with neutral background required prior to start.
- Completion of annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp).
- Float policy acknowledgement: may be required to float to other nearby facilities within reasonable distance.
- No block schedules required.
- Expected patient ratio: 1:6.
Facility & Work Environment
- Short Term Acute Care facility with 49 staffed beds.
- Level IV Trauma Center.
- ICU staffed separately; Charge Nurse oversees ICU workflow but does not provide direct ICU patient care.
- Parking available free in unrestricted spaces.
This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with strong MedSurg and Telemetry skills who are comfortable working independently and assuming charge nurse duties in a fast-paced acute care setting.
