Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST)

Location: Rochester, New York

Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (4x10 hours, 11:00 AM - 9:30 PM) or Evening (4x10 hours, 1:00 PM - 11:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 40

Job Description

• Work schedule offers flexibility to work either 11 AM or 1 PM start times each week.
• Call is required.
• Weekend shifts: 6 shifts per 8-week block, including weekends and holidays.
• Scrubs provided.
• Epic system experience preferred.
• Unit does not accept first-time travelers.
• Local candidates are not accepted (must live more than 50 miles from the facility).

Required Certifications & Skills

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required unless the candidate has worked as a tech in New York prior to 2015.
• Skills and experience with a wide range of surgical procedures including but not limited to:

  • Gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, lap band, laparoscopic assisted cases
  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, carotid angioplasty, carotid endarterectomy
  • Endovascular aneurysm repair, femoral popliteal bypass graft
  • Direct laryngoscopy, radical neck dissection, tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, tracheostomy
  • Appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection (open/LAP), hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical)
  • Mastectomy, thyroidectomy (partial/total), anterior/posterior repair (colporrhaphy)
  • Bilateral tubal ligation, cervical cerclage, dilation & curettage, laparoscopic assisted gynecological procedures
  • Anterior cervical fusion, cervical fusions, craniotomy, insertion of VP shunt
  • Laminectomy/discectomy, lumbar fusion, XLIF, carpal tunnel release
  • Closed/open reduction of fractures, spinal fusion, total hip and knee replacement
  • Mastectomy with TRAM flap reconstruction, bunionectomy, hallux valgus arthroplasty/arthrodesis, metatarsal surgery
  • Colorectal robotic surgery, Da Vinci Xi Surgical System, mediastinoscopy, VATS, cystoscopy
  • Nephrectomy, prostatectomy, ureteroscopy
• Knowledge of decontamination and sterilization processes, aseptic technique, sharps safety, and universal protocol (time out) procedure.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist.
• Surgical Technologist experience within the last year.
• Completion of at least one travel assignment.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required.

Health & Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually.
• Fit mask test annually (specific mask types accepted).
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
• Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• Drug test within 30 days of start.
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season.
• COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required.

Additional Notes

• Prior travel experience is required; first-time travelers are not accepted.
• Must be willing to work call shifts and weekends.
• Locals within 50 miles are not eligible.
• Facility uses Epic electronic health record system.
• Scrubs are provided for the assignment.
