Unit Information

• Unit: Emergency Department
• Number of Beds: 11
• Number of Staff: 28
• Shift Staffing:

  • Day Shift: 1 charge nurse (7a-7p), 1 AM RN (7a-7p), 1 RN (10a-10p), 1 Patient Care Technician (PCT)
  • Night Shift: 1 charge nurse (7p-7a), 1 PM RN (7p-7a), 1 RN (1p-1a), 1 PCT
• Patient Ratios: 1 RN to 2-3 patients
• Equipment Used: Phillips monitors, HillRom beds, Omnicell, GE EKG machine, Lifepak 20e defibrillator, Lucas device, Verathon bladder scanner
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Meditech Expanse

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
• Minimum 3 years of recent Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in a charge nurse role or demonstrated ability to multi-task and think independently

• STEMI protocol
• Stroke protocol
• Conscious sedation
• Chest tube management
• Code response
• Intubation
• Laceration repair
• Antivenom infusion
• Orthopedic splinting (performed by RNs)
