Medical Technologist - Travel/Contract

Location: Huntington, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (5 shifts per week, 8 hours each, 11:30 PM to 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 40


Job Description

  • Perform clinical laboratory testing with hospital clinical lab skills.
  • Expertise in blood specimen storage, hazardous materials handling, proper disposal, labeling, quality assurance, and transmission-based precautions.
  • Chemistry testing includes: 24-hour urine, acetone analysis, arterial blood gas, B-12 folates, cardiac enzymes, hormone testing, hormone/thyroid immunoassay, osmolality, therapeutic drug monitoring, tumor markers, specimen preparation, and review/interpretation of quality control.
  • Use Cerner charting system.
  • Required to wear gray scrubs.
  • Every other weekend work required.
  • No first-time travelers accepted.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Medical Technologist license in West Virginia.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Medical Technologist experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Completion of at least one travel assignment as a Medical Technologist.
  • ASCP or AMT certification or eligibility.

Certifications & Training

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only (not required for MLT).
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC as required (AHA only).
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required if assigned to ICU.
  • Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable.
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement and facility-specific orientation modules must be completed.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Initial physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands.
  • Negative TB test (QGold or T-Spot within 6 months, updated annually; chest X-ray if history of positive TB).
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years.
  • Hepatitis B: surface antibody and antigen titer within 6 months, plus vaccination series or declination form.
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccinations required.
  • Hepatitis A total antibody within 6 months.
  • Hepatitis C antibody within 6 months; if positive, quantitative RNA PCR testing required.
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required by October 31 through April 30; medical or religious exemptions must be approved.
  • COVID seasonal vaccine required; initial series preferred. Declination form required if opting out.
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start, including confirmation values for a comprehensive panel of substances.
  • Onsite N95 mask fit testing; male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit test.

Background Checks & Compliance

  • 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually, covering all locations lived/worked.
  • Background check within 30 days of start; international background check if lived/worked abroad.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals.
  • Facility-specific confidentiality, IT access, respiratory protection, and vaccine exemption forms must be completed prior to start.
  • Religious and medical exemptions for flu and COVID vaccines require facility approval before start.

Additional Information

  • Facility assigns mandatory online modules prior to start; must be completed within one week of start.
  • Candidates must create an account for timekeeping prior to start.
  • Gray scrubs required for shift.

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Technologists with valid West Virginia licensure and prior travel contract experience, ready to work night shifts in a hospital clinical laboratory setting.
