Description

Job Opportunity: Pediatrics Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Largo, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (07:00 - 19:30)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Unit and Patient Population Details

  • Pediatric Medical/Surgical unit
  • Preferred experience with:
    • Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
    • Prematurity, Apnea of Prematurity (AOP), Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP)
    • Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia/Chronic Lung Disease (BLD/CLD)
    • Cardiac defects
    • Feeding issues
    • Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) and iatrogenic NAS
    • Tracheostomy care

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland
  • Minimum 2 years of pediatric nursing experience, including NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) experience
  • Pediatric nursing experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Scheduling and Work Expectations

  • Every other weekend required
  • Holidays required as scheduled
  • Floating required within specialty, including to a sister campus in Baltimore
  • On-call not required

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification, and various federal/state screenings
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted)
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start
  • Immunizations/vaccinations or proof of immunity required for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for pediatric units)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer or vaccination series)
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination; series not accepted)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (for flu season Oct-Mar)
  • Tuberculosis screening: Negative QGOLD or TSPOT within 1 year, or 2-step PPD as applicable, updated annually
  • COVID-19 vaccine not required for this location, but documentation or declination collected for tracking

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Chemotherapy certification (if applicable)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) (if applicable)
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) (if applicable)
  • STABLE certification (if applicable)
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training (if applicable)

Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (score ≥80%) within 1 year of start
  • Age-specific competency exam (score ≥80%)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam not required for this location

Pre-Employment and Onboarding Documents

  • Signed job description prior to start
  • Confidentiality agreement signed prior to start
  • Badge photo (passport style with solid white/beige background)
  • Security ID application within 72 hours of signing contract
  • Portfolio Epic training test-out form (if applicable)

References and Employment History

  • Two supervisory references within 1 year of start (charge RNs, supervisors, or managers)
  • Employment application or resume completed within 30 days of start
  • Verification of previous 5 years of employment history (attestation accepted if necessary)

Additional Notes

  • Floating may include coverage at a sister campus in Baltimore
  • Holidays and weekends are scheduled as required
  • This position is suitable for nurses with pediatric and NICU experience seeking a travel contract opportunity
