Description
Travel RN - Oncology
Location: Denver, Colorado
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (7 PM - 7 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Information
- Unit: Blood Cancer Oncology
- Beds: 18
- Staff: 37 total
- Night Shift Staffing: 1 charge nurse (no patient assignment), 3-5 RNs
- Patient Ratio: 3-4 patients per nurse
- Equipment: Telemetry monitors, bladder scanner, Alaris pump and Alaris PCA
- EMR System: Meditech
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Colorado
- Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience within the last year
- BLS certification
- Chemo certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Preferred Qualifications
- Compassionate attitude toward oncology and chronic patients
- Step-down unit experience, familiar with standing orders (e.g., fluid bolus, first fever)
- Experience with acute hematology patients
Typical Procedures Performed
- Lumbar puncture
- Bone marrow biopsies (with conscious sedation or no sedation)
- Thoracentesis

- Emphasis on primary nursing with less reliance on CNAs/PCTs; nursing interventions are the majority of patient care
- Team-oriented culture: supportive, fun-loving, dedicated, and knowledgeable oncology nurses
- Education provided for safe handling of hazardous drug excreta
- High standards for quality and patient safety

- The unit administers many medications, blood products, and electrolyte replacements
