Description
Job Opportunity: PCU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Manchester, New Hampshire
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Unit & Patient Population
- Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) - Cardiac focus
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
- Patient diagnoses include: Chest Pain, Syncope, Heart Failure, Sepsis, Overdose, GI Bleed, COPD, Pneumonia
- May also care for Medical, Surgical, Trauma, Oncology, Orthopedic overflow patients
- Special procedures: Post-cardiac catheterization with stent (no CABG), ICD/Pacer insertions, Cardioversions
- Facility type: Acute Care Trauma Hospital
- Charting system: EPIC
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Hampshire (including pending licenses)
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience, with PCU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
- Block scheduling may be accommodated but is not guaranteed
- No call required
- Floating to similar units expected
- Local candidates within 50 miles may receive a rate adjustment (note for recruiters only)
- Holiday work: If contracted during all three major winter holidays, must work at least two of them
Required Background & Compliance
- Background check within 30 days of start including:
- Social Security Verification
- National Sex Offender Registry
- National Criminal Search
- FACIS L3
- Education Verification
- Criminal county/state searches (excluding NH counties; NH State Police search required)
- Motor Vehicle Background Check (if applicable)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Drug screen: 10-panel urine drug screen within 14 days prior to start (no exceptions)
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
- Respiratory Safety Clearance questionnaire required
- Two current professional references within last 3 years (one must be from a supervisor)
- Employment application and skills checklist required
Immunizations & Health Requirements
- Flu vaccination required annually (October 31 - April 1), with medical or religious exemptions allowed via facility-specific waiver forms
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within last 10 years required; medical and religious exemptions allowed with documentation
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year; 2-step PPD or equivalent required
- Immunity or vaccination documentation required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (declinations accepted with waiver)
- Varicella (history of disease NOT accepted)
- Annual fit mask test required (N95 or equivalent masks); CAPR training available if fit test fails
Additional Facility Requirements
- Passport-style photo for badge
- Proof of auto insurance if applicable (Home Health, Hospice, Visiting Nurse roles)
- Completion of facility-specific compliance attestations and safety manual acknowledgements
- Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication competency exams required for internal purposes
- Candidates who have previously been employed by the associated health system are not eligible
Notes for Recruiters & Candidates
- First-time travelers accepted only if they have EPIC experience and 2 years of nursing experience; no first-timers with only 1 year experience
- Pending licenses accepted for New Hampshire
- Background checks and drug screens must be current and complete prior to start; no pending drug screens allowed
- Candidates must complete required exams within specified timeframes (e.g., EKG exam within 48 hours of contract signing)
- Religious and medical exemption forms must be completed and approved prior to clearance
