Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position in Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) with night shifts (4 shifts per week, 10 hours each, 9:00 PM to 7:30 AM).
- Patient population includes adult open heart surgery cases such as CABG and valve surgeries (aortic, mitral, pulmonic).
- Scrub role required for open CVOR cases; circulating and TAVR experience highly preferred.
- Knowledge of Impella and HeartMate devices, ECMO, laser lead extractions, and TAVR procedures (also performed in main OR) is necessary.
- Floating to Main OR may be required if no CVOR cases during shift.
- Charting system used: EPIC.
- Scrubs provided by the facility.
- Call requirement: 32 total hours per month.
- Schedule accommodations (block/time off) must be requested and approved prior to offer.
- Locals are accepted.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey.
- Minimum 3 years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience, with CVOR experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID and valid driver’s license required within 48 hours of signing.
- Criminal background check required within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-jurisdictional searches. No open cases allowed at start.
- Employment eligibility verification (E-Verify) required.
- Drug screen (10-panel urine) within 30 days of start.
- Physical exam within 12 months confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
- Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory prior to start; must be updated annually.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol required.
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap.
- Color vision test required if job tasks involve color discrimination.
- Completion of facility-specific education and attestations including annual education sign-off and elder abuse training.
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 72 hours of signing; must pass within 3 attempts.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for adult critical care and related units.
- IV Therapy/Infusion competency exam required for all RNs except OR specialties.
- Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge required; remediation provided after first failure.
- Color blindness testing required within one year of start if applicable.
References and Work History
- Two professional references within the last 2 years required; at least one must be managerial.
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required.
- Work history verification required for at least 1 year prior to start, with no gaps over 30 days.
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is highly preferred but not mandatory; first-time travelers will be considered.
- Floating policy requires completion of floating agreement for every new assignment or site transfer.
- All certifications and licenses must have legal last name matching official records; proof of name change must be provided if applicable.
- Schedule requests must be submitted with application and approved before offer.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity CVOR setting with advanced cardiac surgical cases and requires a skilled RN with strong scrub and circulating experience. Compliance with extensive credentialing, background, and health requirements is mandatory.
