Description
Registered Nurse – Ortho Unit
Location: Tyler, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: Orthopedics (MS Ortho Unit)
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 6 patients
- Float required
- Weekend shifts: Required for half of scheduled shifts
- Number of rooms on unit: 36
- Charting system: Epic
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Texas
- Minimum 2 years of Orthopedics nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID
- Background checks including:
- 7-year background check within 1 year of start (updated annually)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks upon hire
- Education verification (highest level of education)
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually (specific mask types accepted)
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (no declinations except approved medical exemptions)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year
- TB questionnaire if positive TB test, renewed annually
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters required if titers negative or equivocal
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, full series, or declination accepted
- Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history of chickenpox
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
- Unit-specific skills checklist required annually
- Work history verification for the past 7 years
- Completed employment application/resume
Additional Notes
- Candidates residing in certain Texas counties are not eligible for this travel assignment.
- Clear headshot photo required for badge issuance.
- Fingerprinting required only for New Mexico placements (not applicable here).
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment and core competency exams may be required.
This position offers a structured 13-week travel contract on an orthopedic unit with a focus on day shifts and a moderate patient load, suitable for experienced RNs with required certifications and compliance documentation.
