Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Telemetry) - Night Shift
Location
- Towson, Maryland
Employment Type
- Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule
- Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM (3 shifts of 12 hours per week, totaling 36 hours)
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday shifts required as scheduled
- Block scheduling not accommodated; special scheduling requests must be submitted at application
Patient Population & Unit Details
- Adult and Geriatric patients
- General medical-surgical population including diagnoses such as CHF, cellulitis, osteomyelitis, pancreatitis, amputations, small bowel obstruction, atrial fibrillation/dysrhythmias, cancer, and palliative care
- Telemetry unit with EKG monitoring and drips (Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, Lasix) within set parameters (not titratable)
- Equipment used: Telemetry monitors, IV pumps, oxygen, pulse oximeter, vital signs machines, sequential compression devices (SCDs), bed/chair alarms, chest tubes, Foley catheters
- Patient-to-nurse ratio: 1:5
- Floating required within specialty and to lower acuity units as needed
- On-call not required
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Maryland
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience
- Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- ACLS
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Competencies & Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (score ≥ 80%)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (score ≥ 80%)
- Age-specific competency exam (score ≥ 80%)
- Color blindness testing required
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol, updated annually
- Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen (including fentanyl) within 30 days prior to start; instant tests not accepted
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for the 2025-26 season
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine required if working with newborns, children, or ED; otherwise per facility policy
- Immunizations or positive titers required for: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (declination accepted only for low/equivocal titer)
- COVID-19 vaccine not required for this location; medical/religious exemptions accepted if required elsewhere
Documentation & Compliance
- Two supervisory references within 1 year of start (one must be from a supervisor/manager; a charge RN is acceptable if directly supervised)
- Employment history verification for previous 5-7 years (attestation accepted if necessary)
- Agency application/resume completed within 30 days of start
- Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreements, badge photo, and respirator questionnaire must be completed as instructed
- Background checks including 7-year criminal search, education verification, and federal exclusions required within 30 days of start
Additional Notes
- Floating within specialty and lower acuity units is required
- No on-call duties
- Special scheduling requests must be submitted with request to offer (RTO) at application
- Facility will provide IT confidentiality agreements and other onboarding documents that must be signed promptly to avoid delays
This position offers an opportunity to work in a telemetry medical-surgical unit with a diverse adult and geriatric patient population, requiring strong clinical skills and certifications. The role is suited for RNs with at least 2 years of experience, including those new to travel nursing.
