Description

Job Opportunity: Cardiac Telemetry Registered Nurse

Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks


Job Summary

  • Work on a cardiac telemetry unit monitoring patients with diagnoses such as congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, and post cardiac catheterization.
  • Float to other units as needed, potentially every shift.
  • Night shift position: 12-hour shifts, 3 shifts per week (total 36 hours).
  • Patient-to-nurse ratio: approximately 6-7 patients per nurse.
  • Weekend requirement: 5-6 weekend shifts (about every other weekend).
  • Must participate in Storm/Hurricane Team and may be required to work during catastrophic events or disasters.
  • Unit uses Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR for medication, documentation, and communication.
  • Unit orientation duration: 24 hours.
  • Scrubs: Not provided.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of telemetry experience, including telemetry experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Direct Observation Unit (DOU), Intermediate Care, and Stepdown units
  • Cardiac Catheterization Lab experience
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Charge nurse experience.
  • NIH Stroke Certification.

Compliance and Onboarding Requirements

  • Background checks including local, federal, sex offender, and education verification.
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required).
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days required.
  • Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (not required for non-clinical).
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines each; boosters required if negative/equivocal).
    • Hepatitis B titer or facility-specific declination form if negative/equivocal.
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol. TB questionnaire if past positive TB.
  • Completion of medication safety training and other facility-specific education modules prior to start.
  • Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist (for North Carolina travel candidates).
  • Must complete annual compliance and facility-specific mandatory education.
  • Must complete and sign confidentiality agreement, hospital policies, and other required facility documents.
  • Photo for badge required immediately after signing contract (passport style, white background, business attire).
  • Must complete password registration and login to facility’s I-Learn system within 24 hours of receiving credentials.

Additional Notes

  • No Return to Origin (RTO) allowed after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation.
  • Floating is mandatory as needed, potentially every shift.
  • Candidates must be prepared to work in a fast-paced cardiac telemetry environment with complex cardiac patients and drips.
  • Storm/Hurricane team participation is mandatory.
  • Orientation and onboarding processes are strict and must be completed timely to avoid delays.
