Description

Registered Nurse (RN) – Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Location: Saginaw, Michigan
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days
Hours per Day: 12


Job Summary

Provide direct patient care using the nursing process, including ongoing assessment, intervention, and evaluation of patient responses. Function as a team leader/member and resource, delegating and overseeing support staff. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to establish patient goals and outcomes. Responsible for meeting the needs of all patient types in the PCU setting.


Key Responsibilities

  • Regularly assess patient needs and provide skilled nursing services as prescribed by the physician’s plan of care and evidence-based nursing practice (40%).
  • Deliver direct patient care including medication administration, treatments, patient education, assisting with transfers, responding to alarms, and other duties as appropriate (30%).
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of treatment plans and participate in updating or revising plans in collaboration with team members to improve patient care (20%).
  • Maintain knowledge and compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as hospital policies and procedures related to patient care (10%).

Patient Ratio

  • Target ratio: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients, up to 1 nurse to 6 patients

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience.
  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience required.
  • Active Michigan RN license.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
  • Current American Heart Association ACLS certification.
  • Active NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Recent travel nursing work history is highly preferred but not required.
  • Completed Skills Checklist relevant to PCU within the last year.
  • Two supervisory reference forms completed within the last two years.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates within a 50-mile radius of the facility may be considered for this 13-week contract.
  • The role involves working in a full-service hospital with advanced surgical care, a level II trauma center, and a comprehensive stroke center.
  • The facility offers specialty care including structural heart, stroke, spine, cancer, orthopedics, and women’s health services.
  • Utilizes robotic-assisted technology, imaging, lab tests, respiratory therapy, and dedicated rehabilitation centers.
