Job Opportunity: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant
Location: Hot Springs, South Dakota
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 40 hours per week, Days
Job Summary
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) works under the supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist to implement treatment plans for patients with illness, injury, or disability. The role involves assisting patients in overcoming obstacles related to daily activities through therapeutic exercises and environmental modifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in occupational therapy practices under the direction of an Occupational Therapist.
- Implement treatment plans in accordance with American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) guidelines and state/federal regulations.
- Provide feedback and collaborate with the Occupational Therapist regarding patient care.
- Document occupational therapy services accurately in patient medical records.
- Prepare documentation for billing, discharge planning, and other administrative needs as directed.
- Support patients in performing therapeutic exercises, ranging from instruction to physical assistance.
- Monitor patient environments to identify barriers affecting therapy and recovery.
- Make and enact recommendations for necessary accommodations.
- Provide information for resident assessment instruments, including functional abilities and therapy minutes.
- Participate in staff meetings, case conferences, and customer service programs to support facility goals.
- Deliver high-quality customer service to patients and internal/external stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant license in South Dakota
- Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant with at least 2 years of experience
- Experience as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant within the last year
- Experience as a Rehabilitation Therapist
