Description

Registered Nurse - PCU (Progressive Care Unit)

Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Overview

  • 41-bed progressive care trauma/telemetry unit focused on adult patients recovering from traumatic injuries, often post-surgical intervention.
  • Patient diagnoses include surgical trauma such as gunshot wounds, assaults, motor vehicle crashes, and falls.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:4, flexing to 1:5 as needed.
  • Telemetry monitoring available for up to 14 patients; 7 East and West patients are hemodynamically stable.
  • Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, transportation, and unit secretary.

Schedule & Hours

  • Night shift: 3 x 12-hour shifts (19:00 - 7:30)
  • 36 hours per week
  • 6 weekend shifts every 6-week schedule

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Current certifications in:
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
