Location: Roanoke, Virginia

Job Overview
- Adult Respiratory Therapist (RRT) role requiring critical care experience to work in a high-volume Emergency Room at a Level 1 Trauma Center.
- Night shift schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM). Option for 4x12 shifts available upon request.
- Patient population includes adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
- Floating within skillset required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Virginia.
- Minimum of 1 year of Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Critical care experience required.
- Experience administering racemic epinephrine and inhaled Flolan.
- Proficient in arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation.
- Experience in ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, flow-by, troubleshooting high-pressure alarms, and weaning from mechanical ventilation.
- Experience with Epic charting system.
Clinical Skills & Competencies
- Proficient in aerosol and medication delivery systems (mask, trach, MDI, Medihaler). Skilled in administering:
- Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, Pulmicort, Mucomyst, racemic epinephrine, inhaled Flolan, inhaled steroids, bicarbonate, lidocaine.
- Competent in arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation and ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, flow-by, troubleshooting high-pressure alarms, and weaning from mechanical ventilation.
- Airway management skills: extubation, oral/nasal airway placement, suctioning, sputum collection, tracheostomy care.
- Proficient in oxygen therapy and nebulizer setups (handheld, T-piece, trach collar, ultrasonic).
Scheduling & Work Requirements
- Shift: Night, 3x12 hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM). Option for 4x12 shifts available by request.
- Weekend requirement: Either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block.
- Holiday requirement: Must work at least one holiday per 13-week contract.
- Call-off policy: Facility allows calling off 1 shift per 2 weeks.
- Charting system: EPIC experience required.
Unit & Equipment Details
- Patient-to-therapist ratio: 1:25
- Protocols: Robust Assess and Treat protocol with ventilator management and liberation policy.
- Equipment used includes Servo I, Servo U, V-60 BiPAP, Optiflow heated high flow, inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) with iNOvent, and LTV1200 ventilators.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Drivers License/State ID with an address more than 100 miles from the facility is NOT accepted. Must provide within 48 hours of signing.
- Background check: 7-year history required within 1 year of start date, including SS trace, counties, nationwide, sex offender, FACIS Level 3, education verification. New background check required if there is a 30+ day break between assignments.
- E-Verify or attestation required.
- Education verification: Proof of highest earned medical degree required (transcript or diploma).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming freedom from communicable diseases.
- Fit test within 1 year of start, updated annually. Fit testing can be completed onsite if needed.
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 1 year, updated annually. If past positive, clear chest X-ray within 1 year and annual TB questionnaire required.
- Immunizations or positive titers required for: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
- Two clinical references required (hospital evaluations accepted).
- Complete employment application/resume required.
- Annual skills checklist update required.
- Photo for badge: professional picture with plain background required.
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment and HIPAA compliance required prior to start.
Additional Notes
- Locals are NOT accepted due to radius restrictions.
- Pending licenses accepted with temporary authorization while permanent license is processed.
- This facility is a Magnet-designated, Level 1 Trauma Center with advanced specialty care and teaching hospital status.
