Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room (OR) (Days)

Location: Des Moines, Iowa
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work in a Level I Trauma Center with 16 OR suites, routinely running 12-14 rooms.
• Patient types include Cardiac/PV, Neuro, Orthopedics (primarily trauma), Robotics, Gynecology, Urology, General, Pediatrics, and Transplants. Small volume of ENT and Plastic procedures.
• Scrub or circulate preferred; both roles are valued.
• Average caseload: 35-50 cases per day with turnover expectation under 20 minutes.
• Use of specialized equipment including 3 DaVinci robots, Stealth technology for Neuro navigation, and Synthes or Stryker for ortho trauma.
• Weekend on-call coverage from end of shift Friday until 6:30 AM Monday.
• Float across multiple campuses within the local area.
• Scrubs provided.

Required Qualifications

• Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license at time of submission.
• Minimum 24 months of current Operating Room experience (hospital/medical center experience prioritized).
• Experience in circulating and operating room roles required; scrub experience highly preferred.
• Experience with General, DaVinci Robotics, Pediatrics, and Trauma cases required.
• Experience with Neurology, Orthopedics (primarily trauma), Gynecology, Urology, Transplants, Plastics, ENT, and Vascular cases highly preferred.
• Trauma Level II experience required; Trauma Level I experience highly preferred.
• EPIC electronic medical record experience within the last 3 years required.
• Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment within the last 15 months (no first-time travelers).
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) BLS certification required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Skills checklist specific to Operating Room Nurse discipline required.
• Professional reference or performance evaluation from within the last 24 months preferred.

Additional Information

• Orientation dates available mid-June.
• Contractors required to work 1-2 of 3 upcoming summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless the unit is closed.
• New graduate or first-time travelers are not eligible.
• Overtime and holiday pay multipliers apply.
• Call back and on-call pay available.

Work Environment

• 16-bed unit with 1:1 patient ratios.
• High acuity surgical environment with trauma and specialty cases.
• Use of advanced surgical technology and robotics.

Shift

• Day shift only.
