Description

Registered Nurse - ICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:00 - 07:30)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in a Transplant ICU setting
  • Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • No on-call duties; on-call every other weekend (EOW)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in District of Columbia
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • 2 years of experience interpreting and managing dysrhythmias
  • 2 years of experience managing multi-system organ failure
  • 2 years of experience with IV insulin protocols
  • 2 years of experience managing chronic and acute renal failure
  • 2 years of experience with IV therapy
  • 2 years of experience with external ventricular drains (EVD)
  • 2 years of experience with hypothermia protocols (e.g., Arctic Sun)
  • 2 years of experience with ICP monitoring
  • 2 years of experience with infection prevention
  • 2 years of experience with phlebotomy
  • 2 years of experience with surgical wounds with drains and wound vacs

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid driver’s license if driving is an essential job function
  • Criminal background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • I9/E-Verify attestation required prior to hire
  • Education verification of highest degree as required by position
  • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
  • Immunizations and health screenings including:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with additional requirements if history of TB)
    • Documentation of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccines or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccine or positive titer
    • Tdap vaccine within last 10 years preferred
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season
  • N95 Fit Test within 9 months of start and updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed)
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start date
  • Medication, pharmacology, and dysrhythmia/EKG competency exams required within 3 years of start, with minimum passing scores (including 100% on lethal rhythms section of EKG exam)

Experience & References

  • Must provide two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of recent experience within the last 3 years
  • For travel contracts, at least 1 prior travel assignment or 1 month of per diem experience required

  • This position is a proactive backfill for a specific ICU nurse role
  • Float requirement within units of similar or lower acuity
  • No weekend on-call except every other weekend (EOW)
