Operating Room Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Fast-paced Ambulatory Surgery Center specializing in Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) and Eye surgeries
  • 6 Operating Rooms with an average daily census of 45 patients
  • Patient age groups include infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
  • Shift: Day shift, 8-hour days (7:00 AM - 4:00 PM), 40 hours per week
  • No call, float, or weekend requirements

Required Skills & Experience

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience in an outpatient setting
  • Ability to scrub ENT surgery
  • Knowledge and adherence to Universal Protocol (time out) procedure
  • ENT surgery experience
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification

Preferred Skills

  • Pediatric general surgery experience
  • Bronchoscopy and ophthalmology procedures (cataract extraction/implant, corneal transplant, eye trauma, glaucoma surgery, vitrectomy)
  • Pediatric ophthalmology trauma experience
  • Familiarity with electrosurgical units and fiber optic light sources/cords
  • Infection control and laser safety knowledge

Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required

Orientation & Onboarding

  • Unit orientation: 40 hours
  • Scrubs provided
  • RTO (Return to Office) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite; excessive call-offs or RTO may lead to cancellation

  • Cataracts
  • Ocular plastics
  • Head and neck conditions

Systems & Equipment

  • EPIC electronic health record system required
  • SBAR communication method used

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Background checks required within 90 days of start, including local county, federal court, national criminal database, DOJ sex offender search, and education verification for highest degree earned
  • Drug screening required within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days and annual updates required
  • Fit testing required (N95 or PAPR training)
  • Immunizations and titers required or boosters for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (facility-specific declination form if titer negative/equivocal)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframes
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required

Documentation & Compliance Training

  • Confidentiality agreement, education roster, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, and hospital policies must be signed
  • Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist required for North Carolina travel candidates
  • Annual compliance training and medication safety training required
  • Corp ID and I-Learn account setup required prior to start
  • Photo for badge required immediately after signing contract (passport style, white background, business attire)
  • Employment application and references required per agency standards

  • RTO limited to 7 days max for auto offers
