Description
Registered Nurse – Emergency Department
Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- Emergency Department with 101 beds
- Patient ratios typically 4:1 for medical patients, up to 7:1 for behavioral holds
- Staffing includes techs working in cardiac monitoring, internal processing, triage, and unit clerks (days and nights)
- Equipment used: Baxter pumps, GE monitors
- Documentation system: Cerner
- Scheduling: Every other weekend required; no block scheduling; schedule must meet department needs
- Floating: No floating outside the ED; must be flexible to float within all ED sections
- Patient experience focus: AIDET communication, respectful behavior, ongoing patient updates
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience in trauma and stroke care
- Certifications required before start date:
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (CPI)
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) certification required within 90 days of hire
- Teamwork mentality with ability to coach and provide real-time feedback
- Flexibility to work across all areas of the Emergency Department
Work Environment & Culture
- Known for strong teamwork and welcoming personalities
- Serves a highly multicultural community with over 120 languages spoken in the area
- High-volume ED with more than 100,000 visits annually
- Previous experience with the parent healthcare system preferred
Schedule & Hours
- 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend required
