Description

Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel Assignment

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36


Unit Overview

  • Unit: Cardiovascular Progressive Care (CVPC), 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds
  • Patient Population:
    • Cardiovascular surgery and vascular surgery patients (e.g., open heart surgery including CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR)
    • Thoracic lung surgery (lobectomy, thoracotomy)
    • Esophagogastrectomy
    • Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair (open and endovascular)
    • Femoral-popliteal bypass
    • Carotid endarterectomies
    • Overflow medical cardiology patients with diagnoses such as heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, heart block
  • Typical Procedures:
    • Epidural management
    • Chest tube management
    • Tube feedings
    • IV gluccomander use
    • Cardiac drip management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine)
  • Patient Ratios: 1 RN to 5 patients; 1 PCT to 13 patients
  • Equipment: Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, various lifts
  • EMR System: Cerner

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Telemetry experience

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Shift: Not specified
  • Weekend Requirement: Minimum 6 weekend shifts (day or night) per 6-week schedule period
  • Call: No on-call required
  • Floating: May float to any stepdown (1:5 ratio) or medical-surgical units (1:6-7 ratio), and ER inpatient holding area (1:6 ratio)
  • Dress Code: Navy scrubs, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white
