Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU

Unit Details

• Unit: PCU/ICU Overflow (10 beds)
• Patient Ratios: 2:1 in ICU, 4-5:1 in PCU
• Staffing per shift: 1 Charge RN and 5 Staff RNs (day and night)
• No unit secretaries or patient care technicians available
• Floating required; travelers must float as needed
• No on-call requirements
• Shift length: 12-hour shifts
• Schedule: Every other weekend and holiday support required
• Documentation system: Cerner
• Equipment used: Lift equipment, Targeted Temperature Management (TTM), ventilators, IV pumps

Job Description

• Provide care in a critical care/PCU overflow setting
• Assist providers with bedside procedures such as chest tube insertion and intubations
• Perform bedside shift reports (mandatory)
• Relief charge nurse expected to perform nurse leader rounding

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with PCU experience within the last year
• Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) experience
• BLS certification
• ACLS certification
• Proficient in hemodynamic monitoring
• Skilled in ventilator management
• Knowledgeable in critical care pharmacology, including IV sedation, paralytics, vasopressors, etc.
• Experienced in central line management
