Job Opportunity: StaRN - PCU (Progressive Care Unit)

Unit Overview

• Unit: Cardiovascular Progressive Care (CVPC) - 4Heart
• Beds: 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds
• Patient Population:

  • Cardiovascular surgery and vascular surgery patients, including open heart surgeries (CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR)
  • Thoracic lung surgeries (lobectomy, thoracotomy)
  • Esophagogastrectomy
  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repairs (open and endovascular)
  • Femoral-popliteal bypass
  • Carotid endarterectomies
  • Overflow medical cardiology patients (heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, heart block)
• Patient Ratios:

  • RN to patient ratio: 1:5
  • Patient Care Technician (PCT) to patient ratio: 1:13
• Typical Procedures:

  • Epidural management
  • Chest tube management
  • Tube feedings
  • IV gluccomander
  • Cardiac drip management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine)
• Equipment: Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, various lifts
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Cerner

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Carolina
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• PCU experience within the last year
• Telemetry experience
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification

Work Schedule & Environment

• Shift: Not specified
• Weekend Requirement: Minimum 6 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday, day or night) per 6-week schedule
• Call: No on-call required
• Dress Code:

  • Scrubs in all navy, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white
• Floating Areas:

  • Any Stepdown unit (1:5 ratios)
  • Medical-Surgical units (1:6-7 ratios)
  • Emergency Room inpatient holding area (1:6 ratio)
