Job Opportunity: StaRN - PCU (Progressive Care Unit)
Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Overview
- Unit: Cardiovascular Progressive Care (CVPC) - 4Heart
- Beds: 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds
- Patient Population:
- Cardiovascular surgery and vascular surgery patients, including open heart surgeries (CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR)
- Thoracic lung surgeries (lobectomy, thoracotomy)
- Esophagogastrectomy
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repairs (open and endovascular)
- Femoral-popliteal bypass
- Carotid endarterectomies
- Overflow medical cardiology patients (heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, heart block)
- Patient Ratios:
- RN to patient ratio: 1:5
- Patient Care Technician (PCT) to patient ratio: 1:13
- Typical Procedures:
- Epidural management
- Chest tube management
- Tube feedings
- IV gluccomander
- Cardiac drip management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine)
- Equipment: Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, various lifts
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Cerner
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- PCU experience within the last year
- Telemetry experience
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
Work Schedule & Environment
- Shift: Not specified
- Weekend Requirement: Minimum 6 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday, day or night) per 6-week schedule
- Call: No on-call required
- Dress Code:
- Scrubs in all navy, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white
- Floating Areas:
- Any Stepdown unit (1:5 ratios)
- Medical-Surgical units (1:6-7 ratios)
- Emergency Room inpatient holding area (1:6 ratio)
