Description
Registered Nurse - Orthopedics (Travel/Contract)
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 07:15)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Call Requirement: None
Float Requirement: Yes
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Job Description
- Surgical unit with orthopedic and joint focus (total knee replacement, total hip replacement, spinal fusions)
- Occasional medical overflow including some women's health cases (e.g., hysterectomies)
- Average daily census: 34 patients; 48 beds/rooms
- Frequent use of wound vacs and drains
- Unit systems: Pyxis, EPIC (required), SBAR communication
- Scrubs: Navy blue (not provided)
- Orientation and scheduling per unit needs
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of orthopedics experience, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Medical-Surgical and Telemetry experience
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Preferred Qualifications
- Orthopedics skills, especially total joint replacement
Compliance & Screening Requirements
- Background checks including local, federal, national criminal databases, DOJ sex offender search, and education verification
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (30 days if past positive TB)
- Fit mask testing (N95 or PAPR training) required
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
- Immunizations/titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (facility-specific declination form if titer negative/equivocal)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam must be passed with 82% or higher within 72 hours of start (3 attempts max)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Color blindness testing within 1 year (Relias)
- Various facility-specific education modules and compliance training required prior to start
Documentation & Orientation
- Photo for badge (passport style, white background, no headwear except glasses, business attire) required immediately after signing contract
- Confidentiality agreement, education roster, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, and hospital policies must be reviewed and signed
- Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist required for North Carolina travel candidates
- Corporate ID and I-Learn account setup required within 72 hours of contract signing, including proof of login
- Medication Safety training module completion required with certificate of completion
- Physical exam, TB questionnaire (if applicable), and other health documents must be current and uploaded
Additional Notes
- No call-offs or additional RTO (release time off) allowed after booking; violations may result in cancellation
- Interview with manager required before offer
- Float and weekend work expected
- Radiation badge required only for specific tech roles (not applicable for this RN role)
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years required for travel/per diem acute care nurses
