Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - MedSurg/Telemetry
Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour nights (48 hours/week), working every other weekend
Patient Population: Primarily stroke and neurology patients, including neurosurgery, epilepsy, subdural hematomas, and others
Unit Details:
- 42 daily census with 43 beds/rooms
- 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) with optional training for travelers
- Patient care ratios approximately 1:6
- Unit systems include PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of MedSurg/Telemetry experience within the last year
- Completion of 2 or more prior travel assignments
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience in management and interpretation of dysrhythmias
Scheduling & Work Expectations
- 12-hour night shifts, 4 shifts per week (48 hours) or 36 hours/week option available
- Must work every other weekend; if weekend shifts are missed, they must be made up either the same week or at the end of the contract
- Block scheduling is not guaranteed
- RTO (Request Time Off) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite; call-offs or additional RTO may lead to contract cancellation
Orientation & Onboarding
- Unit orientation: 36 hours
- Must complete facility-specific onboarding including medication safety training and confidentiality agreements
- Navy scrubs required
- Must submit a passport-style photo on a white background for badge creation immediately after signing contract
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or proof of past positive TB with appropriate documentation)
- Required immunizations and titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 6 months of start
- Annual flu vaccination or approved exemption with mask-wearing requirement
- N95 fit testing may be required (can be completed onsite if necessary)
- Background check within 6 months for clinical candidates
- Physical exam and references required per travel agency standards
Additional Notes
- Must complete medication/pharmacology competency exams and color blindness testing as required
- Floating may include COVID care units
- Epic test-out option available for experienced Epic users (optional)
- Radiation badge not required for this unit
- Candidates must comply with all facility policies and complete annual mandatory education as applicable
This position is ideal for experienced MedSurg/Telemetry RNs with prior travel contract experience seeking a challenging neurological-focused unit with night shifts and floating responsibilities.
