Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - MS/Telemetry

Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years of experience for a night shift position (18:45 - 07:15) on a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit. The role involves managing patients with a variety of complex conditions including cardiac dysrhythmias, renal failure, and post-surgical care.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience of at least 2 years, with experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
  • Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
  • Pre/Post Hemodialysis management
  • PICC line management
  • Chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac)
  • BiPAP/CPAP management and maintenance
  • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) management
  • Non-invasive airway management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring on the unit
  • Post angiogram, post cardiac surgery, post myocardial infarction care
  • IV insulin protocols
  • Bariatric surgery care
  • Continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
  • Port access and management
  • Care for cerebrovascular accident (CVA) patients
  • Substance withdrawal management
  • Surgical drains care
  • Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
  • Pre/Post thoracic surgery care
  • Tracheostomy care and management
  • Previous charge nurse experience
  • Electronic documentation proficiency
  • Community hospital experience

  • Congestive heart failure (CHF)
  • Urinary tract infections (UTI)
  • Various surgical recovery cases
  • Renal failure
  • Hypertension
  • Cellulitis
  • Failure to thrive

Work Details

  • Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 6 patients
  • Float Requirement: Yes, may float to main campus
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Call: No call required
  • Orientation: 24 hours
  • Scrubs: Navy blue or white

Required Compliance and Documentation

  • Background check within 6 months for clinical candidates
  • Drug screening (9 panel, within 6 months of start)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or proof of past positive with appropriate documentation)
  • Required immunizations and titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Physical exam (per Aya Healthcare standards)
  • Medication safety training certificate
  • Annual compliance and facility-specific education modules
  • Photo for badge (passport style, solid white background, business attire)
  • Confidentiality agreement and other facility-specific forms
  • Must complete Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam with a minimum score of 82% within 72 hours of start
  • Color blindness testing within 1 year
  • References or performance evaluations as applicable

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be able to start ASAP, with start dates on or around June 8 or June 15.
  • Maximum 7 days return to office (RTO) per contract.
  • No block schedules allowed except for weekend blocks.
  • Self-scheduling is used for shifts.
  • Candidates must complete all required education and compliance training prior to start.
  • Must be prepared to work during disaster or mass casualty events as part of a Storm/Hurricane Team.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic telemetry/medical-surgical environment with a diverse patient population and requires strong clinical skills and flexibility.
