Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Acute Care

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Unit: Medical Acute Care Unit (20 beds)

Unit & Patient Information

• General medical unit with common diagnoses typical of medical acute care.
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Day shift: 1:4 or 1:5
  • Night shift: 1:5 or 1:6
• Patient care technicians (PCTs) available 24/7 with ratios:

  • Day: 1:6 or 1:7
  • Night: 1:10
• Telemetry patients monitored by dedicated tele/monitor techs; bedside RNs do not read telemetry strips.
• Respiratory therapy equipment: No ventilators on unit.
• Charge nurse present 24/7; ideally does not take patient assignment unless short staffed.
• House supervisor available 24/7.

Scheduling & Requirements

• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.
• Holiday requirement: 3 out of 6 holidays annually.
• Call or standby requirements vary based on hospital staffing needs.
• Floating: Travel RNs are first to float; otherwise, floating is on a rotation basis.
• Orientation: 3 days of unit-specific orientation; 12 non-billable orientation hours guaranteed.
• Dress code: No specific scrub color preference; scrubs not provided.

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license or proof that application process has been initiated.
• BLS (AHA) certification required.
• General medical nursing experience required.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Must comply with drug-free campus policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels.

Additional Notes

• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius of the facility.
• Call-off policy allows equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty or pay obligation.
• Preference given to candidates with general medical or surgical experience.
