Description
Registered Nurse - Hospice (Travel/Contract)
Location: Montgomery, Alabama
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Provide and coordinate home nursing care according to physician orders and agency policies.
- Directly supervise and evaluate Home Health Aides and Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses.
- Average patient load: 5-8 patients per day, with 5-10 patients assigned daily equating to roughly 6-8 points per day.
- Types of visits include Start of Care, Wound Care, Follow-up Visits, etc.
- Must be willing to travel up to 75 miles from home clinic; average travel about 800 miles per week.
- Work primarily Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with potential after-hours and weekend shifts as needed.
- Weekend and on-call requirements vary; discuss during interview.
- Dress code: Scrubs.
- Charting system: Proficiency required in HomeCare HomeBase (HCHB) and OASIS (for RNs).
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Alabama.
- Minimum of 1 year of hospice nursing experience within the last year.
- Experience working with adult patients in a home health setting.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Proficiency with HomeCare HomeBase (HCHB).
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including 7-year history, SS trace, county searches, nationwide sex offender, motor vehicle record, and state-specific checks as applicable.
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug test required.
- Health documents: Physical exam within 12 months, negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, and seasonal flu vaccination or declination. COVID vaccination or declination required.
- Education verification for nursing degree required.
- References: Two professional references required.
- Work history verification: At least two most recent employers or last 7 years if only one employer.
- Facility-specific documents including confidentiality forms, compliance training, HIPAA and privacy policies, and various state-specific attestations and releases must be reviewed, signed, and completed prior to start.
- Must complete annual compliance and policy acknowledgements if working more than one year consecutively.
Additional Information
- No guaranteed hours; if patient census is low, floating to nearby clinics may be arranged to maintain hours.
- Local candidates accepted at the same rate.
- On-call and weekend shifts depend on staffing needs and location.
- Mileage reimbursed at IRS standard rate for travel between patient homes (commute to/from first and last patient not reimbursed).
This position is ideal for experienced hospice RNs with recent specialty experience who are comfortable with travel and home health care coordination.
