Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse

Location: Vero Beach, Florida
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse in Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 7:15)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (3x12-hour shifts)
  • Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Teaching hospital
  • Total Staffed Beds: 332
  • Charting System: Epic (experience at level 3 or 4 required)
  • Scrub Color: White
  • Parking: Free in any unrestricted space
  • Smoke-Free Facility: All travelers must be nicotine-free (negative 10-panel drug screen + nicotine test required)

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 18 months ICU experience required; 2 years preferred
  • Must have experience with both cardiac and neurological patients (mixed ICU)
  • First-time travel nurses accepted
  • Must be willing to float within scope to three nearby hospitals (within 20 miles)
  • Block scheduling is NOT accommodated
  • Locals accepted at the same rate
  • Pending licenses are NOT accepted

Required Certifications

  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) - must have at time of submission
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - must have at time of submission
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) - must be obtained prior to start
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) administered during orientation (2 attempts allowed per test)
  • Physical Exam within 6 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (annual updates required)
  • Required immunizations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Seasonal Influenza vaccine required during flu season (medical/religious exemptions allowed)
  • COVID-19 vaccination series or approved medical/religious exemption required

Licensure & Background Requirements

  • Valid Registered Nurse license for Florida (Primary Source Verification required within 30 days of start)
  • NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
  • Government-issued photo ID required on person during hours of service
  • Background check: 7-year criminal history check within 1 year of start, including all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals
  • Florida AHCA Level II fingerprint clearance required prior to start (Livescan electronic fingerprinting accepted nationwide)
  • Drug Screen: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 1 year of start (no Florida Medical Marijuana card accepted)

Additional Requirements & Notes

  • All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront with application; late requests likely will not be approved
  • Online training modules must be completed by due date prior to start; modules include COVID documentation submission
  • Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; video content cannot be skipped
  • Candidates must be nicotine-free with negative cotinine test
  • Must be able to pass medication and EKG competency exams during orientation
  • Two professional references required within 2 years of start date
  • Employment application and skills checklist (updated annually) required
  • Facility issues radiation badges if applicable

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Florida
  • Minimum 1.5 years of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system (level 3 or 4 experience preferred)
