Description
Registered Respiratory Therapist
Location: Bozeman, Montana
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide respiratory care to neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients with cardiopulmonary system deficiencies. Serve as a resource and trainer within the respiratory department.
Schedule
- Night shift, approximately 36 hours per week
- On-call one shift every two weeks
- Weekend shifts vary
- May require working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in Montana
- Registered Respiratory Therapist Certification (NBRC)
- Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
- American Heart Association BLS certification
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Respiratory Therapy specialty
Essential Job Functions
- Administer respiratory therapy treatments and nebulized medications to patients of all ages
- Set up and monitor mechanical ventilators and perform associated critical care duties
- Perform arterial punctures for blood gas analysis, understanding complications and contraindications
- Maintain knowledge of oxygen delivery methods, equipment, and medication doses appropriate for different age groups
- Document all patient care and treatments accurately in medical records and electronic health records
- Develop and evaluate patient teaching plans, including family education as appropriate
- Coordinate patient care with other departments and disciplines
- Manage and inspect respiratory therapy equipment for safety and efficiency
- Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities
- Attend required education and training to maintain professional competency
- Maintain confidentiality and exercise tact and discretion in all interactions
Physical Requirements
- Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds
- Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking
- Occasional climbing of ladders or stairs
- Frequent twisting, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching above shoulder level, pushing, and pulling
- Continuous fine finger movements and close visual acuity
- Ability to handle exposure to bloodborne pathogens, radiation, chemicals, medications, infectious diseases, and emotionally challenging situations
Additional Information
- Must live at least 90 miles from the facility to be considered
- Facility reserves the right to cancel up to three shifts during the 13-week contract due to low census or unforeseen circumstances
- Regular and sustained attendance required
Skills and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Advanced math skills for data analysis and interpretation
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization abilities
- Ability to work in a busy, stressful environment and varied shifts
- Proficient with computer applications including MS Office and electronic medical records systems
