Description

Job Opportunity: Transplant Coordinator

Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Coordinate patient care for peripheral blood transplant cellular therapy from candidate identification through evaluation, cell harvest, and infusion/transplant.
  • Manage a caseload of 8+ patients in various transplant phases.
  • Schedule patient appointments and attend interdisciplinary meetings.
  • Work autonomously with strong organizational skills.
  • Patient diagnoses primarily include hematologic malignancies.

Work Schedule

  • 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • 8-hour day shifts: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • No call, float, or weekend requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 3 years of Hematology/Oncology experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience in Acute Care, Clinic, and Outpatient settings
  • Navigator/Case Manager experience
  • Transplant experience
  • Case Management experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of absolute and relative contraindications to transplant
  • Experience assisting with organ offers, acceptance, and recipient preparation
  • Understanding of organ allocation process
  • Post-transplant care coordination and monitoring patient progress
  • Psychosocial support and education on lifestyle adjustments and medication adherence
  • Familiarity with organ-specific diseases (e.g., ESRD, cirrhosis, heart failure)
  • Recognition and management of transplant complications (infection, rejection, etc.)
  • Medication administration and pharmacology relevant to transplant patients
  • Regulatory and administrative compliance, including patient outcome tracking
  • Experience assisting with OR scheduling
  • Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC) preferred

Unit and Equipment

  • Unit systems: Pyxis, EPIC
  • No special equipment provided or required
  • Orientation: 40 hours basic orientation with ongoing training throughout assignment
  • Scrubs: Not provided

Patient Interaction

  • Daily census may be 8 patients, with up to 20 interactions including coordination with patients and care teams
  • Transplant coordinators follow patients through multiple phases of transplant process

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including local, federal, and national databases required within 90 days of start
  • Education verification for highest degree earned specific to nursing profession
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days required
  • Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training required
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframes
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative results required)
  • Immunizations or titers required for: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (facility-specific declination form if titer negative/equivocal)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required
  • Required facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, education roster, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, medication safety training, and annual compliance training
  • Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency as applicable
  • References: 2 professional references within 3 years for travel acute care nurses

Additional Notes

  • RTO (Return to Office) after booking is not allowed and may result in cancellation
  • Interview with hiring manager required prior to offer
  • Must be able to work independently and manage multiple patient cases simultaneously
  • Strong communication and coordination skills essential

This position is ideal for experienced Hematology/Oncology RNs with case management or navigator experience seeking a travel contract role in transplant coordination.
