Description
Job Opportunity: Neuro ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- On-Call: Required
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:1 to 1:2
- Floating: Must be willing to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity
- Electronic Health Record (EHR): Epic
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU nursing experience (highest required years of experience)
- Skills: IV starts, telemetry monitoring, ventilator management, intracranial pressure monitoring
- Preferred: Previous travel nursing experience (not mandatory)
Required Certifications
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) - AHA certified (Instructor/Provider and RQI accepted)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA certified (Instructor/Provider and RQI accepted)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) - AHA certifications only
Required Licenses
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio
- NURSYS verification required
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (required prior to start)
- Unit-specific competency exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam: Required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%, max 3 attempts)
Background & Screening Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide check, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if driving is required
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start using specific code (3701.881)
- Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monthly monitoring
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
- TB questionnaire in lieu of annual TB test renewal
- Adult Tdap vaccination (not Td or DTaP)
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, and Rubella
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination accepted)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Review and sign dress code and hand hygiene policy
- Complete Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism Form
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Annual review and acknowledgment of ethics and compliance policies (new contracts only)
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leader (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU nursing experience, with Neuro ICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Proficient in IV starts
- Experience with ventilator management
- Experience with intracranial pressure monitoring
- Experience using Epic electronic health record system

- Fingerprinting results and background checks have specific processing timelines and must be completed prior to or shortly after start date.
- Candidates with gaps in employment over 30 days with this facility may require updated health screenings and fingerprinting.
